CTAs

The actions members complete to earn points, and how to set them up.

A CTA, short for call to action, is the main building block in Organiz. Members complete CTAs to earn points. Each page can hold as many as you need.

CTA types

These are the action types you can add today.

TypeWhat it does
LinkSends the member to any web address.
EmbedEmbeds an outside tool or form right inside a pop up. Use this for anything not built in.
Sign UpA form that collects a phone number, ZIP code, and consent, and saves it to your member data.
Social ToolkitReady made share cards members can post to social media.
Social PostFeature a post from your team or a partner. Members like, comment, or share it right on the original platform.
Open AppSends the member to open another app on their phone, like a texting or organizing app. If they already have it, it opens right up. If not, they land on the app's store page to install it first.
Contact a FriendLets a member enter someone's name and phone number, then text, call, or share your message through any app they use. They can reach out to more than one person before closing the window, and points are added up once they're done. We remember who they've contacted across your Contact a Friend CTAs so it's quicker next time, and they can come back later and track how each outreach went for a bonus.
ControlShift PetitionA petition members sign through ControlShift.
ControlShift EventAn event members RSVP to through ControlShift.
Mobilize EventAn event members RSVP to through Mobilize.
Action Network PetitionA petition members sign through Action Network.
Action Network EventAn event members RSVP to through Action Network.
Action Network Letter, Call, Form, SurveyAction Network advocacy tools, embedded on the page.
VoteAmericaVoteAmerica voter tools such as registration and ballot requests.
YouTube/LivestreamEmbed a YouTube video or livestream. Members earn points after watching for a set amount of time, and can comment and react alongside the video.

You can also add Text, Content, and Divider blocks to lay out a page. These are not actions and do not earn points.

Some types need an integration first

ControlShift, Mobilize, Action Network, and VoteAmerica are outside tools. Mobilize, Action Network, and ControlShift connect once at the organization level before their CTAs work. VoteAmerica is set up on each CTA. See Integrations for the setup steps.

Add a CTA

  1. Open a page in the builder.
  2. Add a CTA block and pick its type.
  3. Set the title and description. Keep them clear, since they also show up in search results and link previews.
  4. Add an icon, and a larger image if you want the card layout.
  5. Set how many points completing the action awards.
  6. Save. The CTA appears on the page in the layout you chose.

Choose how it looks

Each CTA shows up in one of two layouts.

  • Button is a compact, full width row. This is the default.
  • Card is a larger layout with an image. Two cards in a row sit side by side.

Points and limits

You decide how many points each CTA is worth. You can also turn points off for a CTA when you need to for compliance.

To keep things fair, a member can earn up to 250 points per day across all actions. After a member reaches the limit, actions still work but stop awarding points until the next day.

Show on your organization page

Your organization's profile shows up to three actions from your campaigns under Actions. To choose them, open an action, go to Options, and turn on Show on organization page.

  1. Open the action in the builder.
  2. Go to the Options tab.
  3. Turn on Show on organization page and save.

Actions you switch on come first. If you switch on fewer than three, the rest of the spots go to your most important actions. The switch never changes how many points an action is worth.

Embed: when the outside tool will not display

Some websites do not allow themselves to be shown inside another site. The site decides this, so there is no setting in Organiz that changes it. When it happens, the member sees the browser's own message in the pop up, along the lines of "this site refused to connect."

A few sites do this only now and then, and load fine when the member tries again. If you use one of those, say so in the CTA description, something like "if this does not load, close and reopen it." That one line saves members guessing.

If a tool never loads at all, Organiz shows Try again and Open in a new tab after a few seconds, so members are not left watching it spin.

If members tell you an Embed CTA fails every time, the site is blocking this for good. Use a Link CTA instead so members go straight there.

Open App: sending members to another app

Use Open App when the action lives in a separate app, such as a texting or organizing app, rather than on the web. Fill in:

  • App display name, shown on the button and in the title, for example "Open Empower."
  • iOS App Store URL and Android Play Store URL, the app's listing on each store. Add whichever platforms apply.
  • App link, optional. If the app supports a custom link that opens it directly, add it here. Leave it blank unless you know the app supports this. Without it, members who already have the app still land on it through the store listing, since opening a store link on a phone that already has the app opens the app instead of the store.

A member sees the store listing that matches their phone, iOS or Android, based on which ones you've filled in. If you added an app link, that's what opens first, with the store listings offered underneath as a backup.

After a member taps Open, we ask them to confirm they finished the task before adding their points. If they say they haven't yet, they can reopen the app from that same prompt and confirm again once they're done, without losing the points for that visit.

Contact a Friend: batches, outreach status, and a successful outreach bonus

Contact a Friend works a little differently from other CTAs. A member can reach out to several people in one sitting before closing the window, and points are added up when they close it, based on how many people they contacted. You set a cap on how many contacts earn points in one sitting, so one enthusiastic member can't run up an unlimited amount from a single visit. They can still keep contacting people past the cap. It just won't add more points for that sitting.

Members can track how each outreach went. Each contact starts out waiting for a response, and a member can update it to unable to reach, declined, or successful whenever they know the outcome, even in a later visit. A contact still marked waiting or unable to reach shows up first on the list, so it's easy for a member to remember who to follow up with.

You can set a bonus for when a member marks someone a successful outreach, meaning the contact actually responded or did what was asked. This is separate from the points for reaching out in the first place, and it's optional. Leave the bonus at 0 to turn it off for a CTA. A member's list of who they've already reached out to is shared across every Contact a Friend CTA in your organization, so they won't have to re-enter someone they've already contacted for a different ask.

YouTube/Livestream: watch time and live comments

Use YouTube/Livestream to embed any YouTube video or livestream right on your page. Members earn points once they've watched for the amount of time you set, so the same setup works whether you paste a scheduled livestream or a regular video.

Fill in:

  • YouTube Video/Livestream URL, any YouTube watch, live, or youtu.be link.
  • Watch time to earn points, in seconds. Watch time adds up even if a member pauses and comes back later, so a short pause does not reset their progress.

While they watch, members can comment and react to each other's comments, the same way they would on a livestream anywhere else.

Social Toolkit: ready made posts for members

Use Social Toolkit to give members posts they can share on their own accounts. For each post you pick the platforms it's for and write a caption for each one. Members can edit the caption before they post.

The platforms are Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, Signal, and Bluesky. What happens when a member taps to post depends on what each one allows.

  • X, Bluesky, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn open with the caption already filled in.
  • Facebook doesn't let other sites fill in a post. For a post without an image or video, it opens with a preview of your campaign link, and the caption is copied for the member to paste.
  • Instagram and TikTok have no way to fill in a caption from the web. The caption is copied and the image or video is downloaded, with short steps for finishing the post in the app.
  • Signal is private messaging. On a phone, members pick Signal from their share menu to send the post to a chat. On a computer, the caption is copied to paste into Signal.

On a phone, posts with an image or video use the phone's share menu for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn, so the media comes along too.

Social Post: feature a post from another platform

Use Social Post to put a post that already exists front and center on your page, whether it's from your own account or a partner's. This is different from Social Toolkit, which hands members a ready made card to post themselves. Social Post features something that's already out there. Members open it, then like, comment, or share it right on the original platform.

Fill in, for each post:

  • Platform, the site the post lives on: YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp, or Bluesky.
  • Post URL, a link to the exact post.
  • For YouTube and TikTok, we fetch a live preview automatically, so members see the real video right on your page before they click through. Every other platform needs a screenshot of the post instead. Crop it to just the photo or video, not the surrounding page.
  • Caption, shown under the preview. Filled in automatically for YouTube and TikTok, or typed in yourself for the rest.
  • Engagement note, optional. A short reminder of what you'd like members to do, for example "leave a comment about why this matters."

You can add more than one post to a single CTA. Members see one at a time and move between them with the arrows or the dots underneath. Choose whether posts show in the order you added them, or in a random order that's shuffled differently for each member.

On the card layout, a single post also shows a small button in the corner that opens the platform right away. Tapping anywhere else on the card opens the post in a preview first, so members see it before they leave your page. After they come back, we ask whether they liked, commented, or shared before adding their points.

Share a CTA

Every CTA has its own shareable link. The link opens the campaign page with that action ready to go.
